In the Mood for... Rain
Bad weather as a way to restart a hopping mind and a cue for sleek jewellery.
I spent a fairly large amount of my lifetime in soggy weather conditions. It was not always nice - especially wet shoes - but it used to create an important setting for a certain mood of going deeper into and being with myself. When the lighting mutes, low and soft sounds of drizzle envelope unnecessary noises, getting around gets limited, streets unclog, and everything s l o o o w s d o o o w n (to be read in slow motion style). These are the moments to give your expression wrinkles some rest, open your eyes a bit wider, deepen your breath and start listening to your inner world.
Living in the southern mediterranean I am now not exposed to too many dull days. Which makes me romanticise rain and gloominess (though I am fully aware of the fact that the lack of sunshine is much worse for health, both physical and mental, and I do appreciate the benefits of 300 to 340 sunny days a year thank you, Cyprus, very much). But when it finally pours my soul rejoices.
Rain brings me moments of truth. It takes me back to that transcendent condition, and reminds me of my previous persona that formed my way and led me to the state I gratefully find myself in now. It’s like the songs you listened to in your teen years. Songs to which you could really relate, because they touched some invisible strings inside, reverberated, crushed you with their truthfulness, but felt intimate and precious. You suddenly catch one of those tunes 15-20 years later and feel some sort of a hurting in your chest, like a tiny piece of you dying. But it’s a good pain as it reminds you that you are absolutely alive at this moment, experiencing what may be the highest form of being a human, and that this precious ability to deeply feel will stay with you forever.
…Maybe this is why I am so drawn to all kinds outerwear and nylon and have no interest in summer dresses whatsoever?… Hmm…
Naturally I take great pleasure in savoring photographs featuring nasty weather, which deliver that kind of unsettling wider eyed spirit. And it looks like the rain often inspires the jewellery in such editorials. Cold tones, sleek textures, oversized pearls, smoothness, transparency and outworldly iridescent shine.
Here’s your inspirational downpour. Save it for a rainy day.
Please, enjoy the storm responsibly.
